More Zelda's Inferno exercises:

1) free-write on the phrase: "the time he was buried alive"

the time he was buried alive, in sand at the beach by his older sister, who then went off and left him, just his face sticking out, getting sunburned, biting flies on his cheeks, that time seemed now to have been a foreshadowing of all of his relationships with women

the time he was buried alive in rose petals, tickertape, praise, buried in adulation, stuck in it unable to move

the time he was buried alive, underground, deep in the earth, becoming one with it

the time he was buried alive the time he was buried alive the time he was buried alive alive alive alive he cried alive but no one heard he was buried separated muted unheard buried in indifference not cruelty but apathy

the time he was buried alive the time he was buried alive the time he was buried alive the time he stopped and looked around, suddenly wondering where am I? How did I get here? Who am I? The time he stopped and looked around, wondering what did I just stop? What did I just start? The time he realized he had been buried alive and had just dug his way out.

2) working from a wordlist (theme: dogs)

bone fuzzy dish collar loyal mess drool snuggles
expense unconditional fleas walk bark howl nose

the night fuzzy with smoke we

howl at the full moon we
walk between now and yesterday and tomorrow

unconditional enchantment of firelight we
feel the heat down to the bone we
dance beneath the night's jeweled collar of stars

heartwood and bark alike feed the flames we
are ever loyal to fire we
are ever loyal to fire
