Shinto shrine at Nanzenji

A small Shinto shrine in the hills above the big Zen temple Nanzen-ji. It's not at all unusual to find Shinto shrines on the grounds of Buddhist temples, as odd as that might seem to us. (Imagine finding a Christian chapel in a corner of a Jewish synagogue.)

Shinkansen: the only civilized way to travel

Kyoto station. Taking the shinkansen from Kyoto to Osaka feels a bit indulgent, would never be cost-effective without a Japan Rail Pass. But I had one, so...why not enjoy the only truly civilized way to travel?
